Stafford Stabbing: CCTV Shows Suspect Running from Scene

Detectives investigating an attempted murder in Staffordshire have released CCTV footage of a man they believe to be the suspect running from the scene of a stabbing at Stafford golf course.

Victim in Critical Condition

The victim, aged in his 60s, remains in a critical condition in hospital following the attack on Newport Road at around 7pm on Thursday, May 14. Police believe he was walking through the Castlefields area when he was approached from behind and seriously injured.

CCTV Footage Released

The newly released CCTV footage, captured in the Castlefields area shortly after the attack, shows a man running away from the scene. Officers are urging anyone who may recognise him or saw him that evening to come forward.

A police spokesperson said: "We're also asking people to think carefully about whether anyone they know returned home with any unexplained injuries or whose behaviour, either before or since the incident, is out of character."

Investigation Update

Detective Chief Inspector Ian Fitzgerald, the senior investigating officer, said: "This remains a fast-moving investigation, and we are progressing a significant number of enquiries. The response from the community has been tremendous. Anyone with information, no matter how small, should contact us as it could be an important part of the investigation."

He added: "The victim remains in a stable but critical condition, so it's vital we identify this male as soon as possible."

Police have assured the public that an increased police presence remains in the area. Specialist officers are conducting extensive enquiries, including forensic examination, CCTV trawls, and detailed searches.
