Real Life Tragedy Behind Rivals Mansion Foxfield

The mansion used as the setting for Danny Dyer's character Freddie Jones in the hit Disney+ series Rivals has been put on the market for £8 million. Known as Foxfield in real life, the property is located in Cardiff, Wales, despite being portrayed as part of the fictional Cotswolds countryside in the show.

Built in 1999, the 24-acre estate was previously owned by Welsh entrepreneur Peter Thomas, founder of the popular baking business Peters Pies. The property boasts seven en-suite bedrooms, a valet car garage, a large drawing room, and a white oak staircase shaped like a rugby ball. There is also a lift connecting the floors and a grand dining room with a chandelier.

Estate agent Jemma Friday of Fine and Country described Foxfield as 'currently south Wales' most expensive home'. She noted that since the property appeared on Rivals, there has been interest from buyers worldwide, including those returning from the US. However, she confirmed that Danny Dyer has not yet expressed interest in purchasing the mansion.

The series, based on Dame Jilly Cooper's novels, became Disney+’s best UK drama in 2024. Filming at Foxfield included scenes in the grand dining room and a swimming pool used for a racy scene. The property's grounds feature ponds, tennis courts, and views of the South Wales countryside.
