Serena Williams, 44, said 'core memories were made' as she enjoyed a day out in central London with her eight-year-old daughter Olympia at the Crystal Maze Experience on Shaftesbury Avenue. The tennis legend and her daughter wore matching copper-coloured bomber jackets and posed for a picture outside the iconic dome of the classic TV show, which Williams shared on X.
Wimbledon Comeback on the Horizon
Williams, a seven-time Wimbledon women's singles champion, is scheduled to make her return to the tournament on Tuesday against Australian up-and-comer Maya Joint. She has not played at Wimbledon since 2022, when she lost to Harmony Tan in the first round.
Joint expressed her excitement about the match, saying: 'It’s an honour. I always dreamed about playing Serena Williams and, if you’d told me 10 years ago that I’d be playing her in the first round at Wimbledon, it’s crazy. I have so much respect for her. She was one of my idols growing up and I’m just really excited to have the opportunity to play against her.'
Doubles and Other Matches
Williams also has a wild card for the doubles with her sister Venus, and they have been drawn against Colombian Camila Osorio and Argentina’s Solana Sierra in the first round. Elsewhere, Emma Raducanu is due to open her campaign against Croatian Antonia Ruzic, but fitness doubts surround the 30th seed, who could again meet Aryna Sabalenka in the third round in a repeat of last year. Raducanu did not turn up for her scheduled practice session on Thursday, having reportedly been seen wearing a protective boot the previous evening. The British number one’s team confirmed she is managing a niggle, and concerns grew when she did not appear on the practice schedule for Friday.
