RAF Commander's Daughter Jailed for Glassing Attack in Cyprus

The daughter of an RAF commander has been sentenced to 14 months in prison for smashing a wine glass into a former friend's face in a Cyprus pub. Jessica Cloke, 21, attacked Madison Bagley, 20, inside the Hamlet pub in the Sovereign Base Area (SBA) on August 22, 2025. The SBA is treated as British soil.

Cloke, whose father Group Captain Simon Cloke was the serving commander of RAF Akrotiri at the time, had been drinking heavily before confronting Bagley. CCTV footage showed Cloke pursuing Bagley, shouting at her, and throwing wine in her face. When Bagley retaliated by pouring water over Cloke, Cloke made three attempts to strike her with the glass, causing a severe facial wound.

Bagley, a military dependent from Rock Ferry, Wirral, required 50 stitches and major facial reconstruction surgery. A family member described her as 'a shell of herself'. The court heard the gash on her right cheek was 'perilously close to her eye'.

Cloke initially denied causing grievous bodily harm but changed her plea on the first day of her trial at a closed court in Episkopi. Sentencing, Judge Brian Cummings KC said the CCTV footage 'tells the story' and that Cloke's actions were 'grossly excessive and unwarranted retaliation'. He noted Cloke had not consumed alcohol since the attack and had been hospitalised for mental health care.

A Ministry of Defence spokesperson said: 'Unacceptable and criminal behaviour has no place in our armed forces community.' Cloke will serve her sentence at HMP Dhekelia in Cyprus.
