Prison Official Arrested Over Twins with Inmate

A high-ranking Louisiana prison official has been arrested after giving birth to twins allegedly fathered by a convicted murderer serving a life sentence. Francis Smith, 38, turned herself in to authorities in Iberville Parish on Thursday following a tip about an illicit relationship with an inmate last year.

Details of the Case

Smith gave birth to twins in the fall of 2025 and resigned from her position as a major at the Elayn Hunt Correctional Center that September, according to the Louisiana Department of Corrections. Shortly after her resignation, local news outlet WBRZ received an anonymous tip claiming that the father of Smith's twins was an inmate at the prison.

The Iberville Parish Sheriff's Office launched an investigation but stated that they had not yet verified the father's identity. Authorities are now awaiting the results of a DNA test to confirm the allegations.

Charges and Consequences

Smith was arrested on Thursday and charged with malfeasance in office for her alleged sexual conduct with the convicted killer. She was reportedly given the choice to resign or be fired at the time of her resignation. Meanwhile, the inmate, who has not been publicly identified, was transferred to the notorious Louisiana State Penitentiary, also known as Angola, where he is serving a life sentence for murder.

The Daily Mail has contacted the Iberville Parish Sheriff's Office and the Louisiana Department of Corrections for further comment.
