Prince Harry arrived in London on Tuesday for his first UK event of a planned July visit, attending the 14th Invictus Games Foundation Conversation at Chatham House. The Duke of Sussex was seen smiling as he entered the venue, where he joined leading experts, policymakers, and members of the Invictus community to discuss issues affecting wounded, injured, and sick service personnel and veterans.
Event details and meetings
The event, titled "From Policy to Practice," brings together key figures to address challenges faced by military personnel. Harry is scheduled to meet UK Minister for Veterans and People Calvin Bailey during the event. The appearance comes amid heightened media attention following changes to his trip itinerary.
Timing with court decision
Harry's engagement occurred shortly before a bombshell court decision on his unlawful information-gathering lawsuit against the Daily Mail's publisher, Associated Newspapers Ltd (ANL). The lawsuit, which has been closely watched, accuses the publisher of illegal practices including phone hacking and privacy breaches.
Meghan and children not present
Contrary to initial reports, Meghan Markle did not accompany Harry to London. The change in plans reportedly followed Harry's notification that he would not receive armed police protection during his visit. It is now believed that Meghan and their children, Prince Archie (7) and Princess Lilibet (5), will not spend time in London. However, sources indicate it has not been ruled out that they could join him elsewhere in the UK during this trip.
Security concerns
The lack of armed police protection has been a point of contention for Harry, who has previously raised concerns about his family's safety in the UK. The decision not to provide state-funded security has influenced the couple's travel arrangements, with Meghan and the children staying away from the capital.
