A woman and her former partner have been sentenced to prison terms following the death of her four-year-old son, who succumbed to severe injuries inflicted two years earlier.
The Incident and Injuries
Kol Page suffered what prosecutors described as 'catastrophic' injuries in April 2022 while under the care of his mother, Zoe Coutts, and her then-boyfriend, Scott O'Connor. The force of the injuries was likened to that seen in a serious road traffic accident or a fall from a great height onto a hard object. Kol died in June 2024 at the age of four as a direct result of these injuries.
Court Proceedings and Sentences
At Southwark Crown Court on Friday, O'Connor, 36, was sentenced to 18 years' imprisonment with an additional five-year extended licence period. Coutts, 35, received a 10-year prison sentence. Both had been cleared of murder by the jury, but O'Connor was convicted of manslaughter, while Coutts was found guilty of causing or allowing the death of a child.
This case highlights the tragic consequences of escalating violence within a household and the failure to protect a vulnerable child. Further details are expected to emerge as this is a developing story.
