ITV has confirmed that the gritty crime drama Joan, starring former Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner, will not return for a second series. The six-part show, which aired in September last year, followed the true story of jewel thief Joan Hannington and attracted four million viewers.
A spokesperson for ITV and Snowed-In Productions said: 'We would love to produce another series of Joan. However, as a consequence of cast availability and following co-production discussions it has meant a second series wasn't possible.' Earlier, director Richard Laxton had suggested there was 'definitely potential' for the series to continue.
Sophie Turner, who divorced Joe Jonas last year and is now dating Peregrine Pearson, is set to appear in the thriller Trust and the Amazon Prime series Steal. She is also rumoured to be playing Lara Croft in a Tomb Raider TV series.
The show received praise from viewers, with many highlighting its 1980s setting and soundtrack. One fan wrote: 'I hope this production and all the actors and actresses inside win some awards.' Another said: 'This drama is fabulous, loving the story and the 80's vibe.'
