An online influencer has been charged after allegedly assaulting a volunteer at a homeless charity shelter in Glasgow. The incident occurred late on Thursday, 30 April, at the Homeless Project Scotland shelter on Glassford Street.
The man, reportedly a guest at the nearby House of Gods hotel, allegedly forced his way into the shelter demanding to film himself handing out food for publicity. When volunteers refused and asked him to leave, he became aggressive, headbutting and punching a volunteer before returning to the hotel.
Police Scotland confirmed they were called at 11pm and arrested a 49-year-old man at the scene at 11.38pm. He has been charged and will appear in court at a later date. The force noted they were responding to a high volume of calls in the city centre at the time.
Homeless Project Scotland criticised the delay in police response, stating volunteers were left to defend themselves and protect vulnerable guests who had to wait outside in fear. The charity also expressed concern that hotel staff later attended the shelter asking if the man could return. House of Gods declined to comment.
