Hilaria Baldwin eyes Spain move for family of nine after heritage scandal
Hilaria Baldwin considers moving family to Spain

Fitness influencer Hilaria Baldwin has revealed she and her actor husband Alec Baldwin are considering a major family relocation to Spain, five years after a fierce public controversy over her heritage and shifting accent.

A Search for Space and a New Adventure

In an exclusive conversation with the Daily Mail, the 41-year-old mother of seven stated the family is open to moving because "we need a change." She highlighted the practical challenges of their current life, split between New York City and a Hamptons mansion. "I do think that our kids, like, they want to have their own rooms. That's harder in New York," she explained.

Hilaria, who shares seven children with 67-year-old Alec, expressed a desire for a new chapter. "We have so many kids, and so I feel like we need an adventure. I don't know where we're gonna go, but we need an adventure," she said. She pointed to her family's presence in Spain as a logical possibility, noting, "my whole [family] lives in Spain, so I feel like that's a possibility."

Contrasting Styles and a Lingering Controversy

Her free-spirited approach to a potential move contrasts with her husband's more methodical nature. She described Alec as someone who "likes to know all the parts" of a plan, while she prefers to "see where the wind blows us." The comments were made at a New York City party she hosted on Friday to celebrate her cover feature for Gurus Magazine.

The prospect of a move to Spain inevitably recalls the heritage scandal that erupted in December 2020. Hilaria, born Hillary Hayward-Thomas in Boston, faced intense scrutiny and accusations of fabricating a Spanish background. Public attention focused on her accent, which seemed to fluctuate between American and Spanish in various interviews.

Key moments that fueled the controversy included:

  • A 2020 podcast appearance where she said she moved to New York at 19 and, when asked "from where," replied "my family lives in Spain. They live in Majorca."
  • A televised cooking segment where she appeared to forget the English word for "cucumber."
  • Her professional biography once claiming she was born in Mallorca.

At the time, Hilaria defended her upbringing, stating she was raised "with two cultures, American and Spanish" and spent significant childhood time in Mallorca, where her parents have lived since 2011. She later apologised for not being "more clear" about her background but has more recently defended her changing accent as "code-switching."

A High-Value Hamptons Property in Flux

The talk of relocation comes as Alec Baldwin has again relisted the family's sprawling Hamptons estate. The 10,000-square-foot, seven-bedroom Amagansett mansion is now on the market with an asking price of $21 million.

The property, which sits on 10 acres and includes a pool and spa, has had a turbulent sales history. Alec first bought it in 1996 for $1.75 million, listed it in 2022 for $29 million, and cut the price to nearly $19 million by January 2024. After a failed sale last summer, it has been relisted for $2 million more than its previous asking price.

Whether the Baldwin family's next adventure leads them to Spanish shores or elsewhere, Hilaria's latest comments signal a readiness to leave behind the New York setting that has been the backdrop for both her family life and her most public controversies.
