Alan Titchmarsh has delighted fans by confirming that ITV's Love Your Weekend has been recommissioned until the end of 2027. The beloved gardener and presenter also revealed that he turned down an offer to appear on The Masked Singer, among other major shows.
Love Your Weekend Secured Until 2027
Titchmarsh, who presents the Sunday morning programme, shared the news in an interview with The Telegraph. He expressed his enthusiasm for the show's future, noting that it remains a staple of his television work alongside his YouTube channel, Gardening With Alan Titchmarsh.
A Passion for Gardening and TV
The 77-year-old Yorkshireman spends as much time as possible in his Surrey garden, often starting his day outdoors. He and his wife Alison typically watch television only in the evenings, enjoying dramas like Netflix's The Diplomat and ITV's Red Eye. Titchmarsh also admires skill-based programmes such as The Great British Sewing Bee.
Reflecting on his digital ventures, he said: "We've recorded 250-odd films including one recently about controlling weeds without weed killer, which had over 250,000 hits." Despite his online success, he remains committed to traditional television.
Turning Down Major Shows
Titchmarsh admitted he would "love to host a big shiny-floor TV show again," but has declined several high-profile offers. "I've been asked to do The Masked Singer and I've said no," he revealed. The only exception was All Star Musicals, where he sang Some Enchanted Evening at the London Palladium. "I got away with it, which I was quite pleased about!"
He also turns down Strictly Come Dancing "most years" and once rejected Dancing on Ice with a colourful exclamation: "Dancing on Ice? I'm sixty-f***ing-eight!"
A Life of Gardening and Writing
Titchmarsh is currently working on his thirteenth novel but admits he is easily distracted by garden tasks. "I sit on a bench in the garden with a cup of coffee, then I'll see something needs doing and I'm off," he said.
He reflects on his journey from an apprentice gardener with Ilkley Council to a national treasure: "I'm a plumber's son who left school with one O-level, in art. Nothing got handed to me on a plate." He counts King Charles and Queen Camilla as friends, calling them "great company."
Family Life and Tolerance
Titchmarsh has been married to Alison since 1975, and they have two adult daughters and grandchildren. He praises his wife's patience with his gardening obsession: "I married someone who is very tolerant of how much I talk about gardening. I'm sure it drives her mad, but she never lets it show."
He advocates for tolerance in society, saying: "Exposing yourself to different views - obviously, I'm not talking about things like out-and-out racism - is part of life."
