Chelsea Handler has launched a scathing attack on Spencer Pratt's political ambitions, releasing a profanity-laced video that drew comparisons between the former reality star and Donald Trump. The 51-year-old comedian warned her followers that Pratt, 42, best known for his role on The Hills, should not be considered a legitimate candidate in the Los Angeles mayoral race.
Handler's Warning
In a clip shared to her Instagram on Friday, Handler stated: 'If you're seeing this video, this is a reminder that a straight, white male former reality star that has no previous experience in government should not be a legitimate political candidate.' She added: 'Have we learned anything yet? The bar is on the f*****g floor, people, and I need you to jump over it.' During the video, Handler was seen pouring herself a drink of her canned Vodka Lemonade, which she launched in partnership with Owl's Brew.
Pratt's Response
Pratt, who has been gaining momentum in the race, quickly hit back by sharing a video of comedian Shane Gillis roasting Handler. In the clip, Gillis reminded fans that Handler attended a dinner at convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein's home. 'Most of you have probably never heard of Chelsea Handler, so here's an introduction!' Pratt wrote in the caption on X.
Shane Gillis's Remarks
During Netflix's The Roast of Kevin Hart, Gillis targeted Handler, saying: 'Speaking of tossing tiny shrimp into a child's mouth, Chelsea Handler went to dinner at Jeffrey Epstein's house in 2010.' The comment drew groans from the live audience. Gillis was referencing Handler's 2021 admission that she attended a dinner party at Epstein's Manhattan townhouse. Handler later told actor Rob Lowe on his podcast that the dinner included Prince Andrew, Woody Allen, Charlie Rose, Katie Couric, and Soon-Yi Previn. She insisted it was the only time she ever met Epstein, who died by suicide in jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on child sex-trafficking charges.
Celebrity Reactions
Handler's video garnered support from several famous friends. Actress Busy Philipps commented: 'i love you thank you good lord.' Marisa Tomei left applause emojis, and Henry Winkler added fire emojis. However, others sided with Pratt. One commenter asked: 'Do you actually live here, have you driven around LA lately? Do you think we need another Democratic candidate to run our beautiful city? I'm a huge fan Chelsea but come on. They burned our town down man.' Another wrote: 'Nothing more tone-deaf than a celebrity living behind gates and armed security telling ordinary people how to vote while families dodge naked addicts on the way to school. Your reality isn't ours.'
Background of Feud
Pratt's feud with Handler dates back to the late 2000s, when she relentlessly mocked him and his wife Heidi Montag on her show Chelsea Lately. Pratt announced his mayoral run in January, one year after his Pacific Palisades home burned down in the deadly Los Angeles wildfires. He has been surging in the polls since a debate against Mayor Karen Bass and Councilwoman Nithya Raman.
Reality Show Rumors Denied
Pratt recently shut down allegations that his campaign is being filmed for a reality TV show. A spokesperson told The Wrap: 'This is inaccurate. There is no series in production and cameras have not been following the campaign.' Pratt also denied living in a Bel-Air hotel for reasons other than safety, citing death threats. On X, he wrote: 'Hey guys, why don't they wanna talk about why I need a hotel in the first place? Karen Bass let my home burn down. Also 6,000 of my neighbors. NBD.'
Pratt has received support from celebrities including Kristin Cavallari, David Foster, Heather McDonald, and Paris Hilton.
