James 'Giant' Bigg, the 40-year-old star of the BBC's revived series 'Gladiators,' has announced he will not return for the fourth season, claiming he was forced to quit after being presented with a choice that conflicted with his personal values.
Instagram Statement
In a heartfelt statement shared on Instagram, Bigg addressed his 'Gladiator family,' expressing his gratitude for the experience while revealing the difficult decision. 'Being a Gladiator has been one of the greatest honours of my life. Stepping into that arena, hearing the crowd, representing strength, resilience and being a role model… that’s something I’ll carry with me forever,' he wrote.
He continued: 'What I do want to make clear is this wasn’t a decision I made to step away. I was faced with a choice that didn’t align with my values. And if you know me, you know this… I stand by my people and I stand by what I believe in. That’s what being a role model means to me.'
Uncertain Future
The announcement has left fans and colleagues speculating about the nature of the choice presented to Bigg. Neither the BBC nor the show's producers have commented on the matter. Bigg concluded his statement with a note of resolve: 'I’m proud of everything I gave to the show and grateful for every single person who supported me along the way. This isn’t the end. It’s just the beginning. Stay strong. Stand tall.'
The departure marks a significant change for the show, which returned to BBC One in 2024 after a long hiatus. Giant, known for his imposing physique and competitive spirit, was a fan favorite. His absence will be felt in the upcoming season, though the BBC has not yet announced a replacement.
