Farage Faces Probe Over £5m Cryptocurrency Gift
Farage Investigated Over £5m Undeclared Gift

Nigel Farage, the leader of Reform UK, is facing an investigation by the parliamentary watchdog over a £5 million gift he received from a party donor. The undeclared donation came from Christopher Harborne, a cryptocurrency investor based in Thailand, in 2024.

The Commons Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards, Daniel Greenberg, has opened an inquiry into the matter. Mr Farage has previously insisted there is "no case to answer," arguing that the money was a personal gift unrelated to his political activities and intended to cover private security costs for the rest of his life.

According to reports, the payment was made in 2024 before Mr Farage announced his candidacy for the Clacton constituency in that year's general election. The investigation falls under rule five of the MPs' code of conduct, which requires newly elected MPs to register any relevant financial interests received in the 12 months prior to their election within one month of taking their seat.

A spokesperson for Reform UK stated: "Mr Farage’s office is in communications with the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards. He has always been clear that this was a personal, unconditional gift and no rules were broken. We look forward to this being put to bed once and for all."
