Paige Shiver, the former mistress of fired Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore, has disclosed that she became pregnant during their yearslong affair but was compelled to end the pregnancy due to health concerns.
Health Crisis Revealed
In a bombshell interview with ABC, the 32-year-old former Wolverines football staffer revealed she was diagnosed with Pompe disease, a rare inherited lysosomal storage disorder that causes muscle weakness. Doctors expressed fears for the baby's safety.
Moore's Role
Moore, the 40-year-old married father with whom she was having the affair, urged her to terminate the pregnancy. Shiver stated, 'Multiple doctors and experts told me that it wouldn't be right or healthy for me to keep the baby. [Moore] said you have to do what’s right for your body.'
Firing and Legal Consequences
Moore was fired on December 10th following a university investigation into an 'inappropriate relationship' with Shiver, his personal assistant. It was Shiver who reported the relationship to the school. That same day, he was arrested near an apartment belonging to Shiver after police received a call claiming he had entered her residence and threatened self-harm.
The disgraced Michigan coach received an 18-month probation sentence earlier this month after pleading no contest to misdemeanor trespassing and malicious use of a telecommunications device. Judge J. Cedric Simpson ordered prison sentences of 180 days and 30 days, but both terms were suspended, meaning Moore will avoid jail if he complies with probation requirements.
More details are expected as the story develops.
