Eddie Jones Suspended for Abusing Match Officials

Japan head coach Eddie Jones has been suspended and had his pay docked by the Japanese Rugby Football Union (JRFU) for verbally abusing match officials. The disciplinary action follows incidents that took place during an U23 tour to Australia in April.

Details of the Suspension

As a consequence, Jones will miss four national team fixtures, including the start of Japan’s Nations Championship campaign against Italy on 4 July. He has also received a six-week ban from all coaching activity and a reduction in his salary.

Apology Issued

Former England coach Jones issued an apology, expressing deep regret for his “inappropriate remarks” and behaviour, and pledged to ensure such incidents do not recur. The JRFU stated that such conduct is unacceptable and undermines the integrity of the sport.
