EastEnders' Gray Atkins Set for Shock Return as Toby Alexander-Smith Films Comeback
EastEnders Star Toby Alexander-Smith Returns as Gray Atkins

EastEnders villain Gray Atkins, who was jailed for a string of murders, is reportedly set for a major comeback to the BBC soap. Actor Toby Alexander-Smith, 35, has already started filming his return, according to Radio Times.

The actor starred as the evil lawyer on the soap from 2019 until 2022, when Gray pleaded guilty to multiple murders. Now, a comeback is on the cards, with viewers expected to see his return in just a matter of weeks.

Drama for Chelsea Fox

It is thought that Gray's bombshell return will cause further drama for his estranged wife Chelsea Fox, played by Zaraah Abrahams. Chelsea is already set for an eventful storyline, as a flashforward revealed that she is one of Max Branning's potential brides. This suggests that she may be seeking a divorce from Gray.

Gray's Murderous Past

Gray murdered three people during his stint on Albert Square. His first victim was his wife Chantelle, whom he subjected to months of domestic abuse. When she tried to flee with their children, Gray pushed her onto an open dishwasher, impaling her on a knife.

Three months later, Gray killed Tina Carter after she confronted him about his meddling. He buried her body under the Argee Bhajee. His final victim was Kush Kazemi, whom he pushed in front of a tube train because Gray was obsessed with Whitney and wanted to prevent her from leaving with Kush.

Since leaving the soap, Toby Alexander-Smith has appeared in a string of TV films for Hallmark and recently starred in Prime series Seeking Persephone.

Short Stint Expected

As Gray is currently in prison, it seems his return will only be a short stint. Very little has been heard about Gray since he was sentenced for his crimes off-screen in March 2022.

Speaking about his initial exit, Toby shared: "It is really... we filmed some stuff the other day and I actually got quite emotional just talking out loud about this whole journey as Gray because it's been such a rollercoaster, to see it climax and to see it all come together it did actually affect me more than I thought it would."

EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
