A London landlord has sparked outrage after advertising a room for rent at £1,350 per month with a strict set of rules, including a ban on tenants being home before 8.30pm. The listing, which appeared on Spareroom and was later shared on Reddit, has been widely criticised for its restrictive conditions.
The room, located in the sought-after Camden borough, required a £1,557 deposit. The landlord, described as a professional researcher and music teacher, stated that they teach violin from 4pm to 8.30pm Monday to Thursday, making the room unsuitable for anyone returning home before that time.
The advertisement also specified that the living room was off-limits, as the landlord works there long hours. Additional rules included no guests, no pets, and no noise after 11pm. The ideal tenant, according to the listing, would work long hours in the city during the week and leave for weekends.
One Reddit user sarcastically commented: 'Ah cool, so I'm allowed to exist in my own room for three hours a day, five days a week? For only £1,350/m!? What a bargain!' The post, titled 'The Joys of Renting in London,' highlighted the challenges of the city's rental market.
