When considering a name for a cow, one might instinctively opt for classics like Daisy, Buttercup, or Bessie. However, for a farmer in Bangladesh, there was a compelling reason to choose something far more distinctive.
Uncanny Resemblance to a World Leader
With a distinctive quiff of blonde hair, bemused locals have nicknamed a rare albino buffalo 'Donald Trump' due to its striking likeness to the former US President. The buffalo's pinkish skin texture, a result of its albinism, sets it apart from the herd and gives it an 'uncanny resemblance' to the Republican leader.
The 700-kilogram beast has drawn large crowds to the farm in Narayanganj, near the capital Dhaka. Ziauddin Mridha, the owner, reported that fans have been taking pictures with the distinctive animal after it gained viral fame on the internet.
'My younger brother jokingly named it Donald Trump after seeing the hair on its head,' Mridha told local outlets. 'It is very calm in nature. Albino buffaloes are generally peaceful and do not become aggressive unless provoked.'
One visitor agreed, telling Prothom Alo newspaper: 'When I saw his pictures on Facebook, he looked exactly like Donald Trump. His facial structure and even hairstyle match that of Trump.' They joked: 'The buffalo is very calm and polite in nature, which definitely does not match with Donald Trump.'
The buffalo was purchased 10 months ago at a rate of £3.31 (Tk550) per kilogram but has already been sold ahead of the Eid al-Adha festival.
Another Buffalo Named After a Political Figure
A second cow in the area has also been given a nickname. A 750-kilogram buffalo has been called 'Benjamin Netanyahu' due to its aggressive and misbehaving nature, according to local outlets. It is claimed to have a 'combative' attitude, while its hair and eyes resemble the Israeli Prime Minister.
A manager at the cattle farm was reported as saying: 'Netanyahu is very naughty and has a devious intelligence. Even when we go to feed it, it snorts and tries to gore us.'
Netanyahu was issued with an arrest warrant for crimes against humanity by the International Criminal Court in 2024 due to allegations of starving civilians in Gaza as a method of warfare, murder, intentionally directing attacks against a civilian population, and extermination.
