Coronation Street actor Jonathan Howard has hinted that more than one character may die during the soap's murder week, as his character Carl Webster faces potential exit. Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, Howard suggested that viewers should not assume only one villain will meet their end.
More Than One Death?
Fans have been speculating which of five villains—Carl Webster, Theo Silverton, Jodie Ramsey, Maggie Driscoll, or Megan Walsh—will be killed off. However, Howard revealed that the outcome might not be so straightforward. "It might not even be one that gets killed," he said, implying multiple deaths could occur.
Howard described the week as "cinematic" with all storylines converging. "There's lots of twists and turns," he added, keeping viewers on edge about the fates of the characters.
Howard's Hopes for Carl
Despite the risk, Howard expressed a desire to stay on the show. "I'm having a great time on Corrie, so I don't wanna be killed quite yet," he said. He also noted the fun of working with co-star James Cartwright, who plays Theo.
Howard acknowledged Carl's unpopularity but defended the character's complexity. "Carl isn't straightforward," he explained, noting that Carl often seeks personal gain rather than doing the right thing.
Fan Reactions and Easter Eggs
The actor revealed that each episode will start similarly but include "easter eggs" hinting at characters' actions. Viewers will follow different villains in each episode, building suspense.
Howard admitted he enjoys being called a "scumbag" by fans, saying, "I feel like I'm doing my job." He is proud to be among the potential victims, even if it means leaving the show. "If this was my time, I would go out very proud," he said.
Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
