Chiefs' Rashee Rice Jailed for 30 Days Over Marijuana Probation Breach

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has been sentenced to 30 days in jail after testing positive for marijuana, violating the terms of his probation stemming from a high-speed crash in Dallas two years ago.

The Texas State Attorney’s Office confirmed Tuesday that Rice was ordered to begin his jail term immediately as part of the original sentence handed down in July 2024. At that time, he pleaded guilty to third-degree felony charges of collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway causing bodily injury.

Under the plea agreement, Rice received five years of deferred probation with 30 days in jail as a condition. The Chiefs declined to comment on the case, and Rice’s attorney did not respond to requests for comment.

The jail term coincides with the NFL’s offseason workout phase, meaning the 26-year-old could miss organised team activities and minicamp this spring. On March 30, 2024, Rice was driving a Lamborghini Urus at 119 mph when he made multiple aggressive manoeuvres, struck other vehicles, and fled on foot without checking on the injured.

Rice previously served a six-game suspension for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. At training camp last season, he said he had “completely changed” and learned from the experience. He has played parts of three seasons, missing time due to suspension and a knee injury, and helped the Chiefs win the Super Bowl in the 2023 season.
