Barry Manilow, the 82-year-old singer known for hits like 'Copacabana', made his first public appearance since undergoing lung cancer surgery in December 2025. He was seen looking upbeat in New York City, dressed in a black leather jacket, black jeans, and sneakers, smiling at cameras as he attended meetings with a friend.
Manilow revealed in December that he had been diagnosed with stage 1 lung cancer after suffering from bronchitis. An MRI discovered a cancerous spot on his left lung, which was removed via a lobectomy. He described the early detection as 'good news' and noted that doctors believed the cancer had not spread.
The singer spent seven days in hospital after the surgery and had to reschedule several arena concerts, now planned for June and July. However, in February he expressed uncertainty about returning to the stage after a 'depressing' doctor's visit, during which he was advised that his body was not ready for a 90-minute show.
Manilow's weight dropped to under 130lbs following the surgery, and he has experienced fatigue and reduced lung capacity. He told People magazine in March that he was 'still waiting for the strength that I lost to come back' and that the experience had made him reflect on his life and relationships.
