Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin, the second person to walk on the moon, described three strange sightings during his historic mission, according to recently released Defense Department UFO files. The documents, part of the FBI's case file on UFOs and flying discs, cover reports from 1947 to 1968 and include Aldrin's observations.
The Three Sightings
Aldrin reported observing a “sizeable dimension” object near the moon, which he noted was unusual. He also described “little flashes” inside the Apollo 11 cabin that could not be immediately explained. Additionally, he mentioned a “fairly bright light source” that he tentatively ascribed to a possible laser, though its origin remained unclear.
Context of the Release
The Defense Department released the FBI's case file on UFOs, which includes numerous reports from individuals claiming knowledge about UFOs or extraterrestrials. Among these are a woman claiming to have information on 'beings from outer space' and inquiries about a “captured saucer occupant.” The files shed light on decades of government interest in unidentified aerial phenomena.
The release has sparked renewed discussion about transparency in UFO investigations, with former President Donald Trump praising his own administration's efforts in this area. Aldrin's account adds a credible, firsthand perspective from one of humanity's most historic space missions.
