Naomi Osaka has described her show-stopping Met Gala outfit as feeling like a '20-pound vest', comparing the fashion event to 'the Grand Slam for all fashion'. The tennis star spoke at the Italian Open on Friday, just days after attending the gala in New York.
'My outfit was so heavy,' Osaka said. 'I felt like I had like a 20-pound vest on. But I just kept trying to tell myself to have good posture because tennis players ... sometimes we hunch over a lot.'
At Monday's event, Osaka wore a white sculptural dress by Robert Wun, featuring exaggerated shoulders and adorned with red feathers, along with a matching headpiece and two-toned red gloves. She later opened the dress and removed the headpiece to reveal a sleek red beaded gown embellished with human anatomy.
Osaka attended the Met Gala between tournaments in Madrid and Rome. She opened her Italian Open campaign with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 victory over Eva Lys. Now ranked No. 16, the former world No. 1 has won four Grand Slam titles.
