Thomas Tuchel has sent a clear message to his players as England's World Cup squad flew to Florida for a pre-tournament training camp, aiming to end 60 years of hurt and secure the nation's first World Cup since 1966.
Pre-Tournament Preparations
The initial group of players departed for the United States on Monday, with manager Thomas Tuchel describing the challenge as their Mount Everest and vowing to “add a second star to the shirt”. Tuchel, appointed in November 2024 with the explicit brief of winning the tournament, will oversee a five-day acclimatisation period in Palm Beach, where temperatures are expected to exceed 30 degrees Celsius.
Key Players to Join Later
Key players including Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, Eberechi Eze, and Noni Madueke are set to join the squad later, following their Champions League final defeat on Saturday. Their delayed arrival allows them to rest and recover before linking up with the rest of the team in Florida.
Warm-Up Friendlies and Tournament Base
England will play warm-up friendlies against New Zealand in Tampa Bay and Costa Rica in Orlando before moving to their tournament base in Kansas City. The team's Group L opener is scheduled against Croatia in Dallas on 17 June. The ultimate aspiration is for their campaign to conclude in New Jersey on 19 July.
The squad's departure marks the beginning of a journey that Tuchel hopes will end with England's second World Cup title, adding to the solitary triumph of 1966.
