The White House X account posted an AI-edited image of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's wedding announcement, replacing the 'JUST T MARRIED' message with 'DONALD TRUMP IS YOUR PRESIDENT,' sparking widespread ridicule online. The post, which read 'IT’S HAPPENED!!,' came roughly 10 minutes after digital signs outside Madison Square Garden displayed the wedding news on Friday night.
Social Media Backlash
Critics quickly created their own edited versions of the image, with one viral reply replacing the message with 'Trump is in the Epstein files!' and joking, 'Why would MSG do this??' Others questioned the White House's eagerness to insert itself into a celebrity wedding that had become one of the biggest entertainment stories of the year.
Trump's Mount Rushmore Appearance
While Swift and Kelce celebrated in Manhattan, President Trump was hundreds of miles away in South Dakota, delivering a speech at Mount Rushmore. Trump has previously expressed his desire to have his face carved alongside the four presidents on the monument, a dream he reportedly shared with then-congresswoman Kristi Noem during his first term. Allies have since proposed legislation to that effect.
His appearance was briefly delayed by severe weather, and his speech touched on Iran, what he called the 'communist menace' in America, and his lament that he has never received a Nobel Peace Prize.
Star-Studded Wedding
Swift and Kelce's wedding featured a guest list of celebrities from music, film, and sport, making it one of the most star-studded events in recent memory. The White House's intervention, however, ensured the event became part of America's political discourse, at least for one evening.
