Reform councillor says UKIP in victory speech

A newly elected Reform UK councillor inadvertently mentioned his former party, UKIP, during his victory speech after winning a seat in Peterborough.

Gaffe in Stanground South

Peter Reeve, who secured the Stanground South ward on Friday, told the press: "Our message is: 'UKIP's here, working hard with local communities.'" He quickly corrected himself, explaining that he has been involved in politics for 15 years, transitioning "from the UKIP days all the way to Reform."

Background

Reeve previously served as the UKIP group leader on Huntingdonshire District Council. His slip comes as Reform UK has made significant gains in this year's local elections, taking control of several councils that had been held by Labour for over half a century.
