Jenrick Melts Down on Live TV Over Farage Resignation

Reform UK MP Robert Jenrick had a heated exchange live on Channel 4 News after being questioned about Nigel Farage's resignation as an MP. Farage announced his resignation on television yesterday (July 7) but confirmed he would stand in the upcoming Clacton by-election, stating he wanted to 'let the people decide'.

Confrontation Over Farage's Stunt

During the interview, Channel 4's political editor Gary Gibbon pressed Jenrick on whether Farage's resignation was an attempt to avoid a parliamentary inquiry. Gibbon said: 'People are going to listen to this and say, Well, this is just Nigel Farage trying to dodge an inquiry which he can feel is going the wrong way for him.'

Jenrick responded defensively: 'Look, Nigel was very clear that he has broken no rules. He's-' but was cut off by Gibbon, who retorted: 'He's not the arbiter of that, that's not how it works as an MP!'

Escalating Tensions

The exchange grew more intense as Jenrick insisted: 'He's done absolutely nothing wrong.' Gibbon countered: 'But he doesn't sit in judgement!' Jenrick replied: 'The people sit in judgement!'

When Gibbon attempted to explain parliamentary rules, Jenrick interrupted: 'No, actually we're a democracy. Or at least we in Reform believe it. You might not think that if you look at the other parties-' Gibbon likened the argument to Donald Trump's rhetoric, saying: 'It sounds very Trumpian. Because Donald Trump would say, The fact that voters vote for me, that trumps everything else.'

Jenrick's Rant and Accusations

Jenrick then pivoted to attacking the Labour Party, accusing them of changing the law to prevent British citizens from donating to Reform. He also claimed Labour had 'cancelled elections illegally of 5 million people' and criticised the Conservative leader for comparing Farage to Jeremy Thorpe, who stood trial for incitement to murder. Additionally, he condemned media outlets for harassing Farage's daughter at her home.

Gibbon accused Jenrick of 'jumping through all sorts of subjects' and called his arguments 'quite a jumble'. Jenrick concluded: 'The establishment are trying to play judge, jury and executioner. Well, enough of that.'
