Eyewitnesses describe seeing individuals, some wearing masks, distributing leaflets that demand a ban on the sale of alcohol and pork products—items considered 'haram' or forbidden under traditional Islamic law. The leaflets, written in both English and Arabic, reportedly warn of 'divine punishment' for those who fail to comply.
Confrontations on the Street
More disturbingly, there have been claims of direct intimidation. Several residents have come forward stating they were approached and verbally harassed for carrying grocery bags containing alcohol. One shopkeeper, who wished to remain anonymous for fear of reprisals, recounted being told to remove all pork and alcohol from his shelves or face 'consequences'.
