Woman Orchestrates Brutal Revenge Attack on Ex-Boyfriend

A woman who lured her former partner into a trap before laughing and filming as he was subjected to a "truly brutal assault" has been sentenced alongside two accomplices. Summer Marl-Brock, 21, planned the revenge attack with her cousin David Brock, 38, and Aaron Evans, 34, which saw Benjamin Edwards bitten, kicked and punched in his car.

Premeditated Ambush in Ewloe

Mold Crown Court heard how Marl-Brock contacted Mr Edwards on the night of August 17, 2024, claiming she had been drinking alone and needed help. Concerned for her welfare, he agreed to meet her halfway at shops in Ewloe, Wales. "Unknown to Mr Edwards, Summer Marl-Brock was with David Brock and Aaron Evans. They were lying in wait," prosecuting barrister Jemma Gordan told the court.

The court was told the couple had been in a relationship for twelve months that ended in acrimony, with accusations of violence from both sides. Marl-Brock had told people about these allegations, which became "the catalyst" for the attack. Brock had sent threatening messages to Mr Edwards beforehand, including one stating: "who do you think you are hitting my cousin Summer?"

Shocking Violence Captured on Video

When Mr Edwards arrived, Brock attacked through the driver's side door while Evans assaulted him through the passenger side. The court heard how the attackers punched, kicked and even bit Mr Edwards on the face during the sustained assault. Marl-Brock was heard laughing as she filmed the incident, which only stopped when she was satisfied he had been beaten enough.

Judge Simon Mills described the video as a "truly shocking piece of evidence," noting that "the biting is a particularly chilling feature of this case." The judge added that Marl-Brock eventually called for Brock to stop as the situation became "out of control."

Mr Edwards eventually managed to escape after crashing his car during the ordeal, then called police. He suffered multiple injuries including haemorrhaging to his eyes, bruising and swelling to his face and head, a small jaw fracture, bite marks, and a wound to his ear.

Impact on the Victim and Perpetrators' Backgrounds

In a victim personal statement, Mr Edwards revealed he now suffers from sleep disturbances, nightmares, and panic attacks, struggles with social situations, and bears scarring that constantly reminds him of the assault. The psychological impact has been profound and lasting.

The court heard extensive criminal backgrounds for the perpetrators:

  • David Brock had 14 convictions for 29 offences including assault, possession of an offensive weapon, and driving offences
  • Aaron Evans had 31 convictions for 54 offences including assault, drug supply, and assaulting an emergency worker
  • Summer Marl-Brock had one previous conviction for a driving offence

Judge Mills noted this attack represented a "distinct escalation" in Brock's violent offending.

Sentencing and Mitigating Circumstances

All three defendants pleaded guilty to Section 18 Wounding with intent. In mitigation, their defense counsel presented various circumstances:

  1. Maria Masselis, defending Evans, noted his early guilty plea and intoxication during the incident, mentioning he was married with eleven children between them
  2. Deborah White, defending Brock, cited his early plea, mental health issues including a personality disorder diagnosis, alcohol dependency, and difficult childhood
  3. Andrew Jebb, defending Marl-Brock (who was 20 at the time), highlighted her anxiety, depression, eating disorders, recent stroke, and diagnosis of a heart condition requiring repair

Substantial Prison Sentences Imposed

Judge Mills emphasized that "You all played your individual parts in a truly brutal assault" after planning the revenge attack "for whatever you had perceived he had done." The judge stressed that Mr Edwards had been deliberately "lured" to the scene.

The sentences handed down were:

  • Aaron Evans: six years and three months, with two-thirds to be served in prison
  • David Brock: seven years and two months in prison, with an extended three years on licence upon release
  • Summer Marl-Brock: 54 months, with two-thirds in prison before release subject to licence

All three received 15-year restraining orders prohibiting contact with the victim and must pay statutory surcharges. The case highlights the severe consequences of premeditated violence and the lasting trauma inflicted on victims of such calculated attacks.
