UK's Most Wanted Fugitive Simon Dutton Arrested in Spain After Appeal
UK's Most Wanted Fugitive Arrested in Spain After Appeal

One of the United Kingdom's most wanted fugitives has been arrested in Spain just hours after a public appeal was launched by British law enforcement agencies. Simon Dutton, 49, was wanted for orchestrating large-scale cocaine importation and money laundering activities. He was taken into custody in La Nucia, near Benidorm, and is now held in Spanish custody pending extradition proceedings.

Operation Captura Success

The arrest came shortly after the National Crime Agency (NCA) and Crimestoppers released a list of 12 of the UK's most wanted individuals believed to be hiding in Spain. This initiative is part of Operation Captura, which is now in its 20th year. Through 11 public appeals, the operation has led to the arrest of 98 out of 111 most wanted offenders and suspects in Spain, demonstrating a remarkable success rate.

Ongoing Threat to Communities

NCA officials have emphasised that criminals often blend into British expatriate communities in Spain, where they continue to commit offences against both local and UK victims. The public, particularly British expatriates and holidaymakers in Spain, are urged to review the most wanted list and provide anonymous information to Crimestoppers if they recognise any individuals. The collaboration between UK and Spanish authorities remains crucial in tackling cross-border crime.
