Shia LaBeouf Confronts New Legal Challenge After Mardi Gras Arrest
Hollywood actor Shia LaBeouf, aged 39, is facing renewed legal scrutiny following the issuance of a new warrant connected to his arrest during Mardi Gras celebrations in New Orleans. The former Disney star was taken into custody on February 17 after a late-night altercation escalated into a physical confrontation.
Additional Victim Emerges in Bar Brawl Investigation
Sources revealed to WWL Louisiana on Friday that the warrant involves an additional victim from the same incident, expanding the scope of the investigation. Eyewitness accounts describe LaBeouf becoming increasingly aggressive at a Royal Street business in the French Quarter, leading staff to escort him out. Once outside, he allegedly struck one man multiple times with closed fists.
According to the New Orleans Police Department, officers responded to the 1400 block of Royal Street around 12:45am after reports of a disturbance involving two adult male victims. Authorities stated that the situation intensified when LaBeouf returned to the scene and allegedly assaulted the same victim again before punching a second man in the nose. Witnesses reportedly attempted to restrain him until police arrived.
Court Orders and Substance Use Concerns
LaBeouf posted a $100,000 bond on Thursday after making a court appearance, but he now faces strict conditions. New Orleans Criminal District Court Judge Simone Levine has mandated that he check into a rehabilitation facility and undergo regular drug and alcohol testing. Before the hearing, Judge Levine ordered LaBeouf to take a drug and alcohol test, which revealed evidence of past substance use in his system.
Per Nola.com, Levine noted that LaBeouf is taking a prescription that could account for one of the substances detected, but she expressed particular concern about his alcohol use. His attorney, Sarah Chervinsky, denied the presence of any illegal drugs, stating the test only showed evidence of past alcohol consumption. She emphasized that it is not illegal to get drunk on Mardi Gras.
Allegations of Homophobic Slurs and Legal Charges
Court records indicate LaBeouf was arrested and booked on February 17 on two counts of simple battery, initially released on his own recognizance. A police report obtained by The Daily Mail alleges that LaBeouf repeatedly used a homophobic slur during the altercation. Judge Levine criticized him for the alleged use of such derogatory language against a marginalized community that has historically faced significant adversity.
Following the incident, LaBeouf was taken to a hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries before being booked into Orleans Parish Prison. In a statement to Daily Mail, police detailed that the victims reported being assaulted by LaBeouf, who became increasingly aggressive after being ejected from the establishment and upon his return.
The new warrant underscores the ongoing legal ramifications for LaBeouf, whose career has been marred by previous controversies. As the case develops, the actor must comply with court-ordered rehabilitation and testing while navigating the potential consequences of the additional victim claim and the serious allegations surrounding his conduct during the Mardi Gras festivities.
