Mourners Gather for Funeral of Mum, 29, After Fatal Roadside Assault
Scarlett Faulkner, a 29-year-old mother who died following a shocking roadside assault, was laid to rest today in a heartfelt funeral ceremony in Ireland. Family members and friends gathered to pay their respects, just three weeks after she sustained severe head injuries in an attack near Birdhill, a village in County Tipperary.
Family Remembers Scarlett as a Woman with a 'Heart Like No Other'
Heartfelt tributes were delivered this afternoon at the funeral mass held at St Munchin’s parish in Limerick, where Scarlett hailed from. Her sister, Victoria Faulkner, provided a moving eulogy, remembering Scarlett as a positive influence on her loved ones' lives. Speaking to a packed church, Victoria said she would "cherish every memory we ever shared together".
She added: "You were a character. You always made us laugh no matter what mood we might have been in. You made our bad days better. We will miss your beautiful smile and loving personality. You had a heart like no other. The love you showed us, we will never forget."
Promise of Justice and Focus on Forgiveness
Victoria went on to promise that there would be justice for Scarlett, while also highlighting the deep love from her mother, father, and daughter. She said: "We promise you sister, we will get the justice you deserve. You were Daddy’s girl and Mommy’s world, we will love you forever, our sleeping beauty, from your ten sisters and five brothers, and most importantly you’re beautiful daughter Oceanna, who you loved dearly, the same way she loved you."
Parish priest Canon Donal McNamara of St Munchin’s parish addressed the congregation, urging them to focus on forgiveness in the wake of the tragedy. He stated: "Forgiveness does not mean denying pain or excusing wrongdoing. Forgiveness is a journey, a long difficult, challenging path that leads away from being consumed by anger and towards the freedom that god desires for each one of you."
Details of the Assault and Legal Proceedings
Scarlett passed away on Monday evening after being kept on life support at Cork University Hospital for several weeks. Her family had maintained a bedside vigil following the assault. In connection with the attack, two individuals—a teenage girl and a woman in her 40s—have appeared in court, charged a week after the incident occurred.
Scarlett was remembered as a devoted mother, daughter, sister, and friend, leaving behind her young daughter Oceanna, described as a "gift from god" who reminds the family of her. She was laid to rest in Ballycannon cemetery in Meelick, with the ceremony drawing a large crowd of mourners who came to honor her memory.
