Man in Joker-Themed Body Armor Arrested Near Trump's LA Golf Course
A California man was apprehended by authorities near former President Donald Trump's golf course in Los Angeles while clad in body armor and in possession of a loaded rifle adorned with phrases from the iconic Batman villain, the Joker. Sean Steiner now confronts multiple felony firearm charges following his arrest in the upscale neighborhood of Rancho Palos Verdes, as confirmed by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Alarming Discovery in Affluent Community
Residents of the affluent, cliffside area alerted law enforcement after spotting an individual outfitted in tactical gear on local hiking trails. According to reports from Fox 11, the man was observed carrying gloves, a duffle bag, a step stool, and a rifle. When police responded to the scene, Steiner was arrested while attempting to flee through traffic. A subsequent search revealed a semi-automatic short-barreled rifle and a loaded revolver in his possession.
Steiner was taken into custody in close proximity to Trump National Golf Club Los Angeles. Further investigation uncovered an additional loaded handgun, high-capacity magazines, extra ammunition, and a ballistic vest designed to withstand rifle rounds. The rifle was loaded with a round in the chamber and featured a distinctive green and purple paint scheme, inscribed with phrases such as 'Why so serious?' and 'Let's put a smile on that face'—lines famously delivered by the Joker in the film 'The Dark Knight'.
Disturbing Details and Police Response
During questioning, Steiner allegedly informed officers that he had discharged a pistol round into a nearby area to 'get some anger out'. Law enforcement officials have praised their 'See Something, Say Something' initiative for facilitating the successful arrest, extending gratitude to the vigilant citizen who reported the suspicious activity via 911.
In total, authorities confiscated the loaded rifle, two loaded pistols, high-capacity magazines, surplus ammunition, and the rifle-resistant ballistic vest. The incident underscores ongoing security concerns at Trump properties, which have been sites of various protests and threats since his return to the political arena in 2024.
Context of Previous Incidents at Trump Properties
This arrest follows a series of security breaches at Trump-associated locations. In March, Trump's golf course in Rancho Palos Verdes hosted a 'No Kings' protest, where MAGA supporters and anti-Trump demonstrators clashed. Earlier in February, Secret Service agents and police fatally shot Austin Tucker Martin, a 21-year-old from North Carolina, as he attempted to breach Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida.
Additionally, in February, Ryan Wesley Routh received a life sentence for his attempted assassination of Trump on a West Palm Beach golf course in September 2024. These events highlight the heightened security challenges surrounding high-profile political figures and their properties, with the latest arrest serving as a stark reminder of the potential dangers posed by armed individuals in such sensitive areas.
