British Flight Attendant Faces Battery Charges After Disney World Queue Altercation
A Virgin Atlantic flight attendant from the United Kingdom has been arrested in Florida on battery charges following an alleged physical confrontation with a teenage girl in a queue at Disney World. The incident, which has been described as "inexcusable" by the girl's father, occurred on February 20 at the Magic Kingdom theme park in Orlando.
Alleged Shoving Incident on Tiana's Bayou Adventure Ride
Keith Newman, a 47-year-old British man residing in Lemington, Newcastle, was waiting in line for the Tiana's Bayou Adventure ride, based on Disney's The Princess and the Frog, when an 18-year-old girl and her friend attempted to cut ahead of him. According to reports, the girls explained they were trying to reunite with friends further ahead in the queue, but Newman refused to let them pass.
When one of the teenagers tried to maneuver around him, Newman allegedly pushed her back with both hands, causing her to fall into her companion. The flight attendant was subsequently taken into custody by local authorities.
Flight Attendant's Defence and Legal Proceedings
Newman has denied the shoving allegations, telling police that the girl walked into his hand. Despite his plea of not guilty, he was arrested on battery charges and released on $1,000 bail before returning to the UK. If convicted, he could face a fine or up to a year in jail, highlighting the serious legal ramifications of the altercation.
Father Condemns Actions as 'Inexcusable'
The father of the girl involved has publicly condemned Newman's actions, stating they were completely unjustifiable. He emphasized that his daughter, who is 5 foot 2 inches and 120 pounds, appears younger than her age and should never have been subjected to physical force.
"I hope this sends a message that it's never OK to put your hands on someone else except for self-defense, especially somebody a lot younger than you and from the opposite sex," he told the Daily Mail. "It's inexcusable what he did."
This case underscores ongoing concerns about behaviour in crowded tourist destinations and the appropriate response to queue-jumping incidents. The incident at Tiana's Bayou Adventure serves as a stark reminder of the potential consequences when disputes escalate physically in public settings.
