A British expat living in Benidorm has warned tourists to steer clear of three areas in the popular Spanish resort due to pickpocketing and other risks. Harry Poulton, 24, moved to Benidorm at 18 after a lads' holiday and now considers it paradise, but he says certain spots are best avoided, especially at night.
Speaking on TikTok, Poulton identified the 'Yellow Brick Road' as a high-risk area for small thefts like pickpocketing. He advised avoiding it after dark, though it is safe during the day. The strip is lined with bars and restaurants and includes Leanto Street, Ibiza Street, and Leerida Street.
Second on his list is Pueblo Alley, near the Hotel Pueblo and Levante Beach. Poulton warned of pickpockets and occasional sex workers, recommending tourists take alternative routes. Topping his list is 'Mugger's Alley', described as notorious for pickpocketing, sex workers, and new taxi scams. He urged visitors to cross the road to avoid trouble.
Additional warnings on the Facebook page Benidorm Forever echoed these concerns, noting that 'hugger muggers' may approach men alone at night. The page advised keeping valuables out of sight and reporting thefts to the SATE office. Despite the warnings, Poulton insists Benidorm is paradise, with lower living costs of £500–£1,000 per month, and dismisses myths about scams and high prices.
