The Foreign Office has issued updated travel advice for British nationals in Turkey and Cyprus as the conflict in the Middle East escalates. The warning comes on the fourth day of hostilities between Iran, the US, and Israel, with the Foreign Office advising against travel to certain areas.
British tourists are being urged to avoid travel within 10km of the Syrian border due to fighting and heightened terrorism risk. The Foreign Office warns that travel insurance could be invalidated if advice is ignored. The border between Iran and Turkey remains open, but British nationals crossing from Iran must request facilitation from the British Embassy in Ankara before travelling.
In Cyprus, concerns have risen after a suspected drone impact at RAF Akrotiri on 2 March 2026. No injuries were reported, but non-essential staff are being relocated. The Foreign Office advises British nationals in the Sovereign Base Areas to follow instructions from local authorities.
The Foreign Office urges all British nationals in the region to take sensible precautions and register their presence on the GOV.UK advice hub for updates. The advice applies to Bahrain, Israel, Kuwait, Palestine, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates as well.
