The US president declared on Truth Social that he had requested a halt in fighting from May 9 to May 11, thanking leaders Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky for accepting his proposal. The ceasefire includes a suspension of all kinetic activity and a prisoner swap of 1,000 captives from each side.
Trump's Statement
Trump wrote: "This Ceasefire will include a suspension of all kinetic activity, and also a prison swap of 1,000 prisoners from each Country. Hopefully, it is the beginning of the end of a very long, deadly, and hard fought War." He added that talks are continuing on ending the conflict, which he described as the biggest since World War II, and that progress is being made daily.
This development marks a significant step towards de-escalation in the region, with both sides agreeing to a temporary truce and exchange of prisoners.
