NFL Insider and Patriots Coach Deny Romantic Involvement After Arizona Resort Photos
NFL fans and gossip enthusiasts are meticulously analyzing every public statement from league insider Dianna Russini following the publication of photographs showing her with New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel at an exclusive adults-only resort in Sedona, Arizona. Both individuals, who are married with two sons each, have firmly denied any romantic entanglement after the New York Post released images depicting them hugging and relaxing together poolside at the luxurious Ambiente resort.
Media Outlets Issue Denials Amid Public Scrutiny
The Athletic, Russini's employer, has also issued a formal denial, describing the photographs as "misleading" and lacking "essential context." Despite these assertions, public curiosity has intensified, leading to extensive examination of Russini's social media history, podcast appearances, and archival footage from her tenure at ESPN.
One notable clip resurfaced from a 2021 episode of ESPN's Get Up, where Russini discussed her marriage to Shake Shack executive Kevin Goldschmidt. "I'm married to someone average," she remarked during the broadcast. "I don't post a lot about him. If I was married to someone beautiful, I'd over-post too." Her co-hosts later provided an opportunity for clarification, to which she responded, "We're average together."
Historical Comments and Jokes Resurface Online
Russini elaborated further during the segment, revealing that Goldschmidt had sent her a supportive text message wishing her good luck on the show, noting he was not watching because "he actually works for a living." She humorously added, "So the guy's got a heart of gold, and here I am on national TV killing him. Look, we're average together, but he makes me above average because he married me. I am so sorry, I need to really stop killing my husband on television. I'm going to be divorced by Christmas!"
Another clip features Russini joking about having pre-wedding jitters the night before her marriage to Goldschmidt in 2020, conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic. She recounted conducting a phone interview with quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who was once voted the NFL's "sexiest" player. "The night before my wedding, I'm making calls and I had a phone interview set up with Jimmy Garoppolo," Russini told the Dan Le Batard show. "Jimmy was great. He made a funny joke, like: 'Hey, night before your wedding, you sure you want to do this?' I'm thinking, of all the people in my life that I would talk to the night before my wedding, the one guy... my mom wanted me to marry was Jimmy Garoppolo."
Family Humor and Social Media Investigations
Even Russini's mother has participated in lighthearted banter about the marriage. In a February appearance on the 'Stugotz and Company' podcast, Russini recalled her mother suggesting that Goldschmidt might have a girlfriend because he appeared less stressed and was taking better care of himself. "And she goes, 'You know I'm starting to think he's got a girlfriend, and you know what? Good for him. He looks good, he's successful, his wife's never around. You love this football thing. That's why he looks good,'" Russini recounted.
Online investigators have also revisited Russini's defense of Vrabel following his dismissal as the Tennessee Titans head coach in early 2024. On one of The Athletic's podcasts, she suggested that Vrabel's "physical build" might have been a factor in his delayed return to a head coaching role. "I had a GM at the Senior Bowl who mentioned to me Vrabel's physical build? That he's a very large human being and can be very intimidating to people in an organization that are going to be part of these decisions," she explained.
Conflicting Accounts and Official Statements
Despite the denials, conflicting reports have emerged regarding the circumstances at the Ambiente resort. A source close to Russini informed Page Six that she was at the hotel "during a hiking trip with two female pals." Conversely, a friend of Vrabel's stated that they and the coach drove to Sedona for the day with a third companion, later returning to a hotel two hours away after socializing with Russini and her friends.
However, Page Six reported that three separate eyewitnesses claimed neither Vrabel nor Russini were seen with anyone else at the resort. When questioned if Vrabel was accompanied by friends, one eyewitness responded, "No, he was with a girl." The outlet also noted that Vrabel had attended a scouting event at Arizona State University before making the 125-mile journey to the adults-only hotel, which markets itself as a romantic getaway destination.
Vrabel is married to his wife, Jen, whom he met while both were students at Ohio State University. They have been married for over twenty-six years and share two sons. Steven Ginsberg, executive editor of The Athletic, reinforced the denial, stating, "These photos are misleading and lack essential context. These were public interactions in front of many people. Dianna is a premier journalist covering the NFL and we're proud to have her at the Athletic."
Russini has previously expressed deep affection for her husband, describing their pandemic wedding day as the "best" of her life and posting a heartfelt anniversary message on Instagram in 2022: "It’s you and only you, for me, forever." The Daily Mail has reached out to both Russini and Vrabel's agent for additional comments on the ongoing situation.
