Qatar has launched a fierce diplomatic condemnation of Israel, accusing it of sabotaging efforts towards regional peace with a series of aggressive airstrikes across the Middle East. The Qatari foreign ministry's sharp rebuke warns that the recent military actions could propel the entire region into a dangerous new cycle of violence.
Doha's Stern Warning
In an official statement released on Sunday, the Qatari government expressed its "strong condemnation and denunciation" of the Israeli attacks. Officials in Doha stated that the strikes, which reportedly targeted sites in several neighbouring countries, represent a "serious violation of international law" and pose a direct threat to stability in the region.
Targets of the Israeli Offensive
According to regional reports, the Israeli operations were widespread:
- Iran: Strikes were reported near a major military airbase near Isfahan.
- Syria: Attacks targeted the southern region of Daraa.
- Lebanon: The Israeli military struck sites in the eastern Beqaa Valley.
- Yemen: The Houthi-held port city of Hodeidah was also reportedly hit.
Gaza Ceasefire Talks in Jeopardy
The timing of these strikes is seen as particularly critical. Qatar, alongside Egypt and the United States, has been a key mediator in protracted and delicate negotiations between Israel and Hamas. Doha explicitly stated that these military actions "will have a negative impact on the ongoing mediation efforts" and could derail the process aimed at securing a ceasefire and the release of hostages in Gaza.
A Call for International Action
Concluding its statement, the Qatari government urgently called upon the international community to "take immediate action to de-escalate tensions" and hold Israel accountable for what it describes as a reckless provocation that endangers the security of the entire Middle East.
