Comedian Lou Sanders Recalls £450 Magic Wand Purchase for Beauty Promises

Comedian Lou Sanders has shared a bizarre story about spending £450 on a magic wand that a healer claimed would make her "beautiful." The 47-year-old star of Amazon Prime's Last One Laughing appeared on the Spent podcast with host Matt Edmondson this week, where she detailed her chaotic spending habits, including this unusual acquisition.

The Dubious Purchase

During the podcast episode, Sanders described the magic wand as one of her most "ridiculous purchases." She clarified, "Well, I bought a magic wand. Not, not a euphemism." According to Sanders, the recommendation came from the husband of one of her healers, who insisted she buy the device.

"It was quite expensive, about 450 pounds," she explained. "They do knock-off ones from China. And I said, 'Should I buy a knockoff one from China?' He said, 'Are you mad? You've got to get a legit one.' So I bought it."

Sanders described the wand as resembling "a hair dryer with crystals in" and mentioned watching videos of Korean women promoting it for beauty purposes. When Edmondson asked about its purpose, she admitted, "I don't really know. I didn't look into it enough to be able to talk about it with anything other than ridicule."

Uncertain Usage and Rediscovery

The comedian confessed she hasn't properly experimented with the device. "I'm not really using it, so that's not ideal," she said. When questioned if it plugs in, Sanders responded uncertainly, "It does? Oh, you've got me there? No, I think I have used it a few times, but then I lost it."

She recently rediscovered the wand in a box and plans to incorporate it into her routine. "I'll put that away. Good to know I've got it and I'll use it later," Sanders noted. "I'm now going to move back into my bedroom, then get a little routine going, and I dare say the magic wand will make it in, just to see."

When pressed about what she hopes it will achieve, Sanders smiled and said, "Okay, make me beautiful. Beautiful healing. It's very good if you've got an injury. Apparently, I'll let you know. I'll do an experiment. I'll let you know."

Background on Last One Laughing Success

Sanders starred in the first series of Last One Laughing UK, which premiered on Amazon Prime Video in 2025. The show features comedians attempting to make each other laugh while maintaining straight faces, with contestants eliminated after laughing twice.

Just last month, Amazon confirmed the show will return for a third series, along with a Halloween special. A show insider told The Sun, "Last One Laughing is unquestionably one of the most talked-about TV shows of the past year." They added that the calibre of comedians for series three "will be off the scale."

Amazon boss Tara Erer commented on the programme's success: "We've already made this format in over 20 countries. Wherever it goes, it becomes a huge hit. With the UK, we knew it would be successful. But the scale at which it grew was a welcome surprise."

The first series was won by Bob Mortimer, who triumphed over Richard Ayoade in the final. Mortimer returned for the second series to defend his title against a new lineup including Alan Carr, David Mitchell, and Romesh Ranganathan.

Fans have enthusiastically responded to the show's casting, with one social media user calling the lineup "epic" and another predicting, "Bob to retain his crown. All hail king bob."
