King Charles and Queen Camilla arrived in the United States on Monday afternoon to commence a four-day state visit aimed at reinforcing the "special relationship" between the two nations. Buckingham Palace confirmed the visit would proceed despite a recent shooting incident at the White House correspondents' dinner.
Arrival and White House Welcome
The royal couple were greeted by President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump at the White House. The welcoming ceremony was followed by a private tea and a garden party attended by guests representing various US-UK connections.
Washington D.C. Schedule
Further activities in the capital will include a state arrival ceremony with full military honours, a bilateral meeting between King Charles and President Trump in the Oval Office, an address by the King to both houses of Congress, and a state dinner.
New York and Virginia Engagements
The visit will then move to New York, where the King and Queen will visit the 9/11 memorial and meet first responders. Queen Camilla will present a specially made 'Roo' toy to the New York Public Library, completing its Winnie-the-Pooh collection. Concluding their US tour, Charles and Camilla will travel to Virginia to attend a community party marking the 250th anniversary of American independence. They will also engage with indigenous communities to discuss climate change projects before the King continues to Bermuda.
