Emergency services, including five fire engines and an ambulance crew, rushed to the scene at 4 Rue Gabriel-Fauré in the Bois du Château neighbourhood, a working-class area of the city. Despite their efforts to resuscitate the child, they were pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigation Underway

Local authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child's death. Public prosecutor Laëtitia Mirande stated, 'An investigation into the causes of death has been opened. A 10-year-old child plunged to their death at an apartment complex in Lorient, western France, on Sunday. Paramedics attempted to resuscitate them but she was pronounced dead shortly after.' She added that initial inquiries do not suggest the involvement of a third party. A post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted in the coming days to determine the exact cause of death.

The child's family has been referred to France Victimes, a victim support organisation, to receive appropriate assistance. According to Ouest-France, the child was of Comorian origin, and the local Comorian community has been deeply affected by the incident. The victim's gender has not been officially confirmed, with conflicting reports suggesting the child could be a boy or a girl.
