Flight Details and Passenger Information
The charter flight, which reportedly costs 800 euro per seat, departed from Oman on Saturday. It is scheduled to make one stop in Cairo before its final arrival at Dublin Airport. The aircraft is transporting approximately 300 vulnerable individuals, including children and people with urgent medical needs, ensuring their safe return home amid the growing crisis.
Background and Regional Context
This government initiative comes as part of broader efforts to assist Irish citizens in the Gulf region. Earlier this week, three Emirates flights successfully transported hundreds of Irish citizens from Dubai to Dublin, with another flight expected to land at 9.45pm on Saturday. Additionally, many Irish nationals have managed to secure indirect flights to Ireland from Abu Dhabi or Dubai via transit hubs such as London or Paris.
According to official estimates, there are around 24,000 Irish citizens registered with the Department of Foreign Affairs across the Middle East. Significant populations include approximately 14,000 in Dubai, 2,000 in Abu Dhabi, and over 2,000 each in Qatar and Saudi Arabia. The consular crisis team has been highly active, responding to more than 2,300 queries since last weekend alone.
