Eamonn Holmes Thanks Viewers After Missing TRIC Awards Due to Health

Eamonn Holmes has expressed his gratitude to viewers after GB News won the Best News Programme award at the TRIC Awards for the fourth consecutive year. The broadcaster was unable to attend the ceremony due to ongoing health issues, including a stroke he suffered in April.

In a message to GB News viewers on June 24, Holmes said: 'I'd just like to say a huge thank you to all the viewers who took the time and trouble to vote. To win for the fourth time in a row is unbelievable, and I'm so proud to be a part of Britain's number one news channel.' He added that his focus remains on recovery, stating: 'I'd dearly wished I could have been there to celebrate with the team, but for now my focus has to be on making a full recovery and getting back to my best.'

Holmes has faced numerous health challenges in recent years, including hip surgeries in 2016, a fall down stairs that fractured his shoulder, a painful infection, and spinal complications that led to bladder and bowel issues and a nine-day hospitalisation. In 2022, he suffered another fall.

At the TRIC Awards, held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London, presenter Anne Diamond informed attendees of Holmes's absence, saying: 'There are a couple of people who would love to be here but can't. Eamonn Holmes is not very well at the moment but he is doing well, he is recovering and we hope he will be back with us very soon.'

Holmes's son Declan previously released a statement after his father's stroke, describing it as a 'real shock' and thanking supporters for their kind messages. He said: 'What happened came as a real shock, but dad is doing OK given the circumstances and we're taking it one step at a time.'
