David Haye Re-enters the Jungle for I'm A Celebrity South Africa All Stars
Former British heavyweight boxing champion David Haye is set to return to the jungle as part of the I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here All Stars series in South Africa. The spin-off, featuring some of the show's most memorable campmates, launches on Monday, April 6, with hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly overseeing what are promised to be some of the biggest trials in the programme's history.
From Boxing Ring to Jungle Fame
David Haye first entered the I'm A Celebrity jungle in 2012, where he was eliminated on Day 20 and finished in third place overall. During that stint, he faced challenges involving snakes, beetles, and even stepped in to re-attempt a live trial originally attempted by fellow contestant Helen Flanagan. Reflecting on his past experience, Haye claimed the tasks were "very easy" back then, but praised producers for "turning up the heat" this time around.
Speaking ahead of the launch, the 45-year-old ex-pugilist noted that the show helped him realise his ability to bond with strangers. "I'm quite easy to get on with and I never had issues with mixing," he said, adding that the camp had been quite chilled but might get "saucier" this time. He expressed confidence in handling trials, stating, "Chuck a bunch of cockroaches or spiders over me, I am pretty sure I will be fine."
Addressing Relationship Rumours and Personal Growth
Since his 2012 appearance, Haye has kept busy, notably with speculation surrounding his personal life. He was romantically involved with former Coronation Street actress Helen Flanagan throughout 2023 before their split in December. Rumours swirled that they formed a "throuple" with Haye's girlfriend Sian Osborne, but Flanagan has firmly dismissed this.
Haye and Flanagan met on the show in 2012, and their connection has since been a topic of public interest. Despite the gossip, Haye appears focused on his return to the jungle, where he is most looking forward to the South African wildlife. "I really enjoyed the connection with mother nature," he remarked.
Prepared for the Challenge Ahead
David Haye admitted he is mentally prepared for his time in camp this time around, including the sparse food rations. "I knew the food, the beans and the rice - I was aware of it. And I was able to kind of enjoy it a little bit more this time. I wasn't as conscious as first time around. This time around, I felt a lot more - maybe I'm a bit older - but I seemed a lot more relaxed," he explained.
As he joins 11 other All Stars in the South African jungle, viewers will see if his relaxed attitude holds up under pressure. The series promises intense trials and dramatic moments, with Haye's return adding a layer of nostalgia and intrigue for fans of the original show.
I'm A Celebrity... South Africa returns on Monday, April 6 at 9pm on ITV1 and STV, offering a fresh take on the beloved reality format with veteran contestants facing new challenges.
