The Scottish Greens are expressing strong optimism about securing three MSPs in Glasgow, according to one of the party's candidates. Holly Bruce, who is contesting the Glasgow Southside seat for the Greens, stated that party officials are extremely hopeful about winning the constituency previously represented by former first minister Nicola Sturgeon.
Battle for Glasgow Southside
Ms Bruce is facing current equalities minister Kaukab Stewart in the race for Glasgow Southside. If successful, she would become the first Green candidate elected to a local constituency in the history of Scottish devolution. Speaking to the Press Association, Ms Bruce said: "We are feeling really positive about winning Glasgow Southside. On the regional ballot, we are really hopeful we will get three MSPs for Glasgow."
She added that having three Green representatives would "do wonders for politics." Ms Bruce, who serves as a Glasgow city councillor, remarked: "I feel like we, the Greens, do push the SNP to do better in their politics. We have seen that in the previous term, where we pushed the SNP to be better on climate action and on poverty action as well, so it will do wonders for people."
Potential SNP Losses
Reports indicate that SNP Culture Secretary Angus Robertson could be at risk in his Edinburgh Central seat, facing a challenge from former Green co-leader Lorna Slater. Ms Bruce commented: "It talks to the fact that Greens have been slowly building a movement in Scotland for a number of years now. We have also got a record number of Edinburgh councillors sitting on Edinburgh City Council at the moment, so it has been a slow growth within our party and our movement, so it does not surprise me that Lorna might get elected today."
