The United States military has conducted a significant strike against an Iranian drone carrier, releasing black-and-white footage that shows the vessel engulfed in flames. Central Command released the footage, which captures the moment the Iranian drone carrier, identified as the IRIS Shahid Bagheri, erupted into a blaze following the missile strike. The IRIS Shahid Bagheri is a converted container ship featuring a 180-meter-long runway designed for drone operations. Reports from its inauguration in 2025 indicated that the vessel can travel up to 22,000 nautical miles without needing to refuel, making it a key asset for Iran's naval capabilities.
Military Officials Comment on the Strike
Admiral Brad Cooper, head of US Central Command, described the carrier as "roughly the size of a World War II aircraft carrier" and added, "And as we speak, it's on fire." This statement underscores the scale of the vessel and the impact of the strike.
This attack is part of a broader series of military actions in the region. Earlier in the week, an American submarine sank an Iranian frigate off the coast of Sri Lanka. In a separate operation, under cover of darkness on Friday morning, B-2 stealth bombers dropped dozens of 2,000-pound "penetrator" bombs on deeply buried ballistic missile launchers inside Iran. Admiral Cooper also confirmed that strikes targeted Iran's equivalent of Space Command, which he said "degrades their ability to threaten Americans."
