Holly Walsh, writer of the BBC comedy series 'Amandaland', has named Melania Trump as her dream guest star after winning Best Scripted Comedy at the BAFTA Television Awards. Speaking at the winners' press conference, Walsh joked that the First Lady is 'very much America's Amanda' and dubbed her 'Melania Narnia'.
The quip follows a recent SNL UK sketch parodying Melania Trump, in which she was played by Emma Sidi. British comedians have taken an interest in the First Lady since her unexpected press conference regarding Jeffrey Epstein.
Despite the show's win, star Lucy Punch did not take home the Actress in a Comedy award, losing out to Katherine Parkinson of 'Here We Go'. Co-stars Jennifer Saunders and Philippa Dunne were also nominated but unsuccessful. Punch told Deadline on the red carpet she was 'thrilled' to be nominated and discussed her upcoming project 'The Audacity', a Silicon Valley series co-starring Billy Magnussen and Sarah Goldberg.
Walsh hinted at a potential third season of the hit BBC show, saying the team is 'over the moon' and describing the series as 'a load of middle age women being stupid'. The BAFTA win caps a successful run for the comedy, which has become one of the BBC's biggest of the decade.
