Ukrainian drones struck multiple industrial facilities in the central Russian city of Ryazan on Wednesday, including the oil refinery and warehouses belonging to online retailer Wildberries, local authorities and the company confirmed. The attacks damaged at least seven Wildberries warehouses over recent days, destroying around 10 per cent of storage capacity and disrupting operations for tens of thousands of small businesses using the platform.
The strikes come as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with US President Donald Trump in Washington on Tuesday, following a funeral for Senator Lindsey Graham. Zelensky described the meeting as “good” and discussed licenses for Patriot interceptor production, a move Trump had pledged last month that would allow Ukraine to manufacture the air defence systems domestically.
During the talks, officials agreed that envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner would visit Kyiv in the future. Zelensky also warned that Russia has been aiding Iran by capturing satellite imagery of US bases in the Gulf region, which later appear in Iranian strikes, asserting a “clear correlation” between the images and attacks. Trump downplayed the impact of any Russian assistance for Iran.
Meanwhile, the US Senate advanced legislation to penalise countries purchasing Russian oil, gas and exports, including sanctions on Putin and senior Russian officials. The bill, passed 86-12, is seen as a tribute to the late Senator Graham. Zelensky argued during his Capitol meeting that there is a window to bring Putin to the negotiating table.
